Applying for Colleges

Applying for Colleges
Hey girls!!
So if any of you are going to start looking at schools, and furthermore applying, this is the tip for you! (:

1. Finding the Right School
When considering schools, consider what career choice you want. Then find out if this school even offers a major that will support that!
Most universities have a list on the academic section of their website that says all of their majors that they offer.

Be sure to visit the school before you apply! Going on a tour, sitting in on a class, and visiting the dorms and cafeteria are essential in getting the vibe of the campus and seeing if it fits your personality! (:

2. Find Out When Applications Are Due
DO NOT wait until the last minute to apply, especially if you are getting into a difficult school.

Give yourself a good amount of time to apply, and make sure your essay is perfect!

3. Financial Costs
Be sure to look into financial costs of universities with your parents. While community colleges cost a couple thousand, private universities can cost up to $50k, and state universities are typically in between. Be sure to see what is the most reasonable school for you, and what loans and grants you may need.

Be sure to look into as many scholarship opportunities as well. Keep your high school grades up, because most universities will give scholarships to students with high GPAs!

4. Writing the Essay
Start off with an interesting topic. Like a short story or quote that will catch the attention of the admissions office. Write and be yourself in your essay.
Lots of high school English teachers will read and critique your essays before you send them in, so be sure to have them looked at!

5. Have a Backup School
You never know if you will get in. Even if you are sure you will get into your dream school, always have a backup choice. If you are planning on going out of state, apply to an in state school just in case. You don't need to apply to a million schools, but a few good options are great to have.

Hope this helps! xoxo
